Finding a Coach

So I may join Tuscaloosa as a non-school afiliated runner with a coach. We meet on Tuesday, and we will go over some of my plans and goals, and how to modify former to achieve latter. It should be interesting. He's got over 30 years of experience with triathletes and just plain runners. He seems to value core and strength work a great deal...something I definitely need to work on (seeing as it still feels like there is still an animal trying to claw it's way out of my abdomen from Sunday's workout).

Anyway, we'll see how Tuesday goes.

Run:
10.2 Easy jog on grass
1:18:30
HR avg about 150 (just for aharmer ;-) )

Jay,

What was the deciding factor for you to get one? Don't get me wrong, I think it's a very good idea, but just want to get a sense of why now...just coming out of some down time? feeling a little scattered? Etc...you know me, the more help I can get, the better.

Hi Joseph,

The main reason is that I want to get past the point where I got to last spring, but without the crash and burn. I'm in buildup, and I'm doing things a bit differently this time around, but I'd like some input and feedback from a third party who knows more about my case than I can put on a messageboard. I also want to do it before I start hammering my body with 100 mile weeks again, and sending myself into the red zone.

I actually don't feel very scattered these days. My focus on running has been pretty good, and my weeks have been what I've wanted them to be, except for the unwanted downtime that happened for two long periods this year. I also think my fitness is coming along really well, evidenced by the workouts here, and here.

Having additional input, and someone kicking my butt into the gym to do core work, etc, can only be a good thing, I think. This coach is actually a guy hired by the team I run for, so there is also a convenience factor.

I'm interested to see how it goes.
